Wieners and dicks, Maximus! Wieners and dicks!!
So, I got the flash cart from Hong Kong today. The doorbell rang, and I heard the lady talking to Dad say Mom's name, so I went to tell him it was for me, but he was already signing for it. It came basically as expected, though a little sooner, and the experience was different than I thought it would be. It was really easy to use; I just dragged and dropped the files onto it and it worked perfectly. I was really impressed with the build quality, which is always a concern with these types of products. I did my research, but there is always that lingering doubt. I seriously played it almost all day. Unfortunately, that brings me to the sad part of this post.

Jessi drove me up to a place in Merchant's Crossing called Pak Mail, where they pack and ship stuff for you. The gentleman was very polite, but told me I may as well buy a new monitor for how much it would cost to have someone pack and ship it. He told me I could cut my costs down to a little under fifty bucks if I packed it myself, but then I would run the risk of BenQ (the company who made my monitor) saying it got damaged or something on the way there. So, obviously, I was not thrilled. I kept my cool, though, by immersing myself in an English-translated version of Jump Ultimate Stars, a fighting game for the DS featuring all the most popular characters from Weekly Shonen Jump's different manga series, which will sadly never see an American release.

Anyway, some hours later, Dad acquired for me a 20" monitor box from Paula's work, complete with a bunch of awesome packing foam. So, I've got the monitor packed securely, but I still have to pay the money and hope that they'll fix it for me. It's not all that bad, though. Last Friday, I mowed the lawn of a friend of mine, who had gotten a citation from the city, but worked too much to ever have time, on top of the fact that he doesn't have a mower. He lives with his girlfriend and daughter and takes care of them, so I kinda figured somebody ought to help them out a little. It was sadly one of the only things I've ever done just for the sake of being nice. When I told them about my monitor troubles, though, and when I was under the sad impression it was only going to cost me fifteen dollars to ship, he insisted on giving me the money for helping him. I wish I hadn't accepted, but I did, forever tainting my one kind deed. The good news, however, is that instead of spending probably forty-five or so dollars, I'll only actually have to spend thirty or so. I can't keep this CRT monitor Chris' brother Eric is loaning me, not that I'd really want to anyway, so my options have become very limited.

In other news, I found someone on Craigslist who wants a math tutor, and I'm actually going to try to do it. She comes over Thursday, and I think this will be a great way of seeing if I'm capable of being a teacher. I'm actually kind of excited. I'm going to start her off with basic algebra. I hope I do a good job. Not just for the money, but I'd really like to accomplish something worthwhile.
